At approximately 6:24 a.m. on January 20, a 4.5-ton truck traveling in the second lane toward Changwon collided with a 4.5-ton wing-body truck ahead of it near the Changnyeong Interchange (IC) on the Jungbu Naeryuk Expressway in Changnyeong County, Gyeongnam.
Subsequently, a 25-ton truck following behind crashed into the rear of the 4.5-ton truck involved in the initial accident.
As a result of the accident, driver A, a man in his 60s who was operating the 4.5-ton wing-body truck, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital.
The 4.5-ton truck responsible for the initial accident was damaged, causing bedding loaded in its cargo area to spill onto the road.
For a time, the road at the scene was completely closed for accident response, resulting in congestion stretching approximately 4 kilometers behind the accident site. The traffic gradually eased starting at around 7 a.m. as one lane was reopened.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, questioning the three drivers involved: driver A of the 4.5-ton wing-body truck, driver B, a man in his 60s who was driving the 4.5-ton truck, and driver C, a man in his 50s who was operating the 25-ton truck.
