[Weather Tomorrow] "Daehan" Brings Severe Cold Wave... Seoul Morning Low to Reach -13°C Yonhap News Agency

On January 20, which marks Daehan (the coldest period according to the traditional calendar), a severe cold wave is expected due to the influx of cold air from the north.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the morning temperatures on January 20 are forecast to drop by more than 10 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day, resulting in a continued period of intense cold due to the cold air coming from the north.

In particular, cold wave advisories will remain in effect mainly in the central regions for the time being, and strong winds will make the perceived temperature even lower. The public is advised to take extra care of their health.

The minimum morning temperatures are expected to be: Seoul -13°C, Daejeon -11°C, Daegu -7°C, Jeonju -9°C, Gwangju -6°C, Busan -2°C, Chuncheon -14°C, Gangneung -5°C, Jeju 0°C, and Ulleungdo and Dokdo -3°C.

The maximum daytime temperatures are expected to be: Seoul -3°C, Daejeon 0°C, Daegu 4°C, Jeonju 0°C, Gwangju 2°C, Busan 6°C, Chuncheon -1°C, Gangneung 3°C, Jeju 4°C, and Ulleungdo and Dokdo 0°C.

Fine dust levels are expected to remain at a 'good' level across all regions, as clean northwesterly air flows in and vertical air mixing remains active, resulting in clean air quality.

Late at night, less than 0.1 cm of snow may fall in parts of the west coast of South Chungcheong, the west coast of Jeolla, and Jeju Island. Starting January 21, significant snowfall is expected to begin, especially along the west coast of Jeolla.

With the nationwide severe cold, icy roads and black ice may form, so caution is advised for both drivers and pedestrians.

Wave heights in coastal waters are expected to be 1.0 to 3.5 meters in the East Sea, 1.0 to 3.0 meters in the West Sea, and 0.5 to 3.0 meters in the South Sea.

In offshore waters up to about 200 kilometers from the coastline, wave heights are expected to reach 1.5 to 5.5 meters in the East Sea, 1.5 to 5.0 meters in the West Sea, and 1.0 to 4.0 meters in the South Sea.
