Guri City Activates Emergency Response System for Cold Wave Warning

Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Paik Kyunghyun) visited the comprehensive winter water supply countermeasure situation room set up in the Waterworks Department on January 19 to prepare for the nationwide cold wave warning and checked the progress of the winter cold wave disaster safety measures.

This on-site inspection was organized to minimize inconvenience to citizens and establish a prompt response system, as temperatures in the Guri area are forecast to remain below minus 10 degrees Celsius for more than 10 days.


On this day, an official from the Waterworks Department reported, "We are operating an emergency repair team to ensure immediate restoration in the event of water facility freezing, and we also plan to deploy emergency water supply vehicles in case of water supply interruptions."


Mayor Paik Kyunghyun of Guri City ordered that citizen inconvenience be minimized through swift restoration in the event of water meter and other water supply facility freezing, emphasizing, "The Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters must thoroughly inspect cold wave shelters such as senior citizen centers and village halls, and meticulous care must be provided for vulnerable groups."


He further requested, "Please do your utmost to ensure that no citizen is left behind during the cold winter while responding to the cold wave."


Additionally, Mayor Paik Kyunghyun asked citizens, especially vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly, to refrain from outdoor activities as much as possible during the period when the cold wave warning is in effect.

Meanwhile, the Korea Meteorological Administration has issued cold wave advisories and warnings for all areas of Gyeonggi Province, as morning lows are expected to drop below minus 12 to minus 15 degrees Celsius for two or more days or temperatures are forecast to plummet rapidly. Among them, cold wave advisories have been issued for 21 cities and counties in the province, including Guri City, while cold wave warnings are issued when large-scale damage is anticipated.
