On January 19, the special prosecutor’s team announced to the media, “On January 2, we summoned Lee Jaeman, former head of the Labor Investigation Support Division at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, as a reference witness and questioned him.”

Lee, the former division head, is known to have been involved in handling the case, including reviewing the case report, when the Bucheon Branch of the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office cleared Coupang of all charges in the severance pay case in April last year. The special prosecutor reportedly questioned Lee regarding the circumstances under which the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office ultimately approved the decision to clear Coupang of charges at that time.

In addition, the special prosecutor’s team stated in the announcement, “We are still internally discussing whether to change Prosecutor Shin Kahyun’s status to that of a suspect.”

Meanwhile, on the same day, the special prosecutor’s team also summoned Jeon Seongbae, known as Geonjinbeopsa, as a reference witness in connection with the suspicion of the lost banknote band. The questioning ended according to Jeon’s detention center visitation schedule. The special prosecutor’s team plans to conduct additional questioning in the future.
