From January, Surviving Family Members and Direct Recipients of Military, Police, and Public Officials Who Died or Were Injured in the Line of Duty Will Be Included
Gijang County is further strengthening its recognition of national merit recipients. The scope of the Veterans Honor Allowance will be expanded to include not only military and police personnel and public officials who died in the line of duty or were injured, but also their surviving family members, thereby providing more substantial support for their livelihoods.
On January 19, Gijang County (Governor Jeong Jongbok) announced the implementation of a veterans policy focused on expanding the eligibility for the "Gijang County Veterans Honor Allowance." Starting in January 2026, the newly eligible recipients will include: ▲ military and police personnel who died in the line of duty, ▲ military and police personnel who were injured in the line of duty, ▲ public officials who died in the line of duty, and ▲ public officials who were injured in the line of duty, as well as their surviving family members.
Eligible applicants must have been registered residents of Gijang County for at least one year as of the application date. To apply, they must bring their merit recipient certificate or family certificate and a copy of their bankbook to the administrative welfare center in their township or town of residence.
In addition, the scope of recipients for the Busan City Veterans Honor Allowance will also be expanded starting in 2026. The new eligible categories will include: ▲ military and police personnel who were wounded or injured in the line of duty, ▲ recipients of military merit or national merit awards, and ▲ individuals recognized for their contributions to the May 18 Democratization Movement. National merit recipients aged 65 or older can apply at their local administrative welfare center with the required supporting documents.
Jeong Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, stated, "This expansion of the Veterans Honor Allowance is intended to strengthen our recognition of those who have served the nation and their families," adding, "We will continue to pursue veterans policies that provide practical support for their livelihood stability."
