Effective from January 19 until the weather advisory is lifted
The Mokpo Coast Guard has issued a "Caution" level alert under the Coastal Safety Accident Risk Advisory System for eight cities and counties within its jurisdiction, starting January 19 and continuing until the weather advisory is lifted, in order to prevent maritime accidents caused by strong winds and other adverse weather conditions.
The affected areas specifically include Mokpo City, and the counties of Shinan, Muan, Haenam, Jindo, Yeongam, Yeonggwang, and Hampyeong.
The Coastal Safety Accident Risk Advisory System is a measure established under the "Coastal Accident Safety Management Regulations" to inform the public of risks and prevent accidents in hazardous locations and zones along the coast, such as piers, during certain periods when adverse weather or natural disasters are likely to cause safety incidents. The system consists of three levels: "Attention," "Caution," and "Warning."
The "Caution" level is issued when there is a high risk of safety accidents or when there is concern about the potential spread of damage.
During the period that the "Caution" alert is in effect, the Coast Guard plans to strengthen both maritime and land patrols, focusing on coastal low-lying danger zones such as coastal waters, ports, and rocky shores. In addition, the Coast Guard will make every effort to prevent coastal safety accidents through publicity and safety guidance activities utilizing local government resources, police station electronic displays, and public announcements.
An official from the Mokpo Coast Guard urged the public to refrain from entering coastal danger zones such as low-lying coastal areas, ports, and breakwaters. The official also requested that vessel operators conduct frequent safety checks to prevent flooding or capsizing of vessels docked in ports and harbors.
