Rear Admiral Kim Taehoon has assumed command as the 9th Commander of the Republic of Korea Navy Submarine Force, which oversees the nation's underwater operations.
Rear Admiral Kim, a graduate of the 49th class of the Korea Naval Academy in 1995, has served as the commanding officer of the Choi Museon and An Junggeun submarines, head of the Korean Submarine Project Group at the Defense Acquisition Program Administration's Future Power Project Headquarters, and Chief of Planning and Management at Navy Headquarters. He is recognized as a submarine expert with extensive experience in both the practical operation of submarines and the advancement of weapon system technologies and force build-up projects.
The Navy Submarine Force Command (hereinafter referred to as "Submarine Force") will hold the inauguration ceremony on the afternoon of January 19 in the Submarine Force's joint lecture hall, presided over by Vice Admiral Kim Kyungryul, Commander of the Navy Operations Command.
In his inaugural address, Commander Kim Taehoon stated, "The Submarine Force must become an elite national strategic unit that enhances core capabilities and strengthens weapon systems to most powerfully deter enemy provocations and neutralize threats in times of crisis. I will do my utmost to improve welfare infrastructure so that all personnel serving in the Submarine Force can focus solely on their duties, thereby boosting morale and pride as members of the submarine unit."
