Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the situation in the Middle East and issues surrounding Iran.
The Kremlin stated on January 16 (local time) that "President Putin expressed his fundamental position to Prime Minister Netanyahu, supporting the strengthening of political and diplomatic efforts to ensure stability and security in the Middle East."
The statement also said, "The Russian side reaffirmed its willingness to continue mediation efforts and to promote constructive dialogue with the participation of all relevant parties." According to the Kremlin, the two leaders agreed to maintain contact at various levels.
