Promotion of Onnuri Gift Certificate Membership and Mutually Beneficial Rent Agreements
Approval Application to North Gyeongsang Province Planned by End of This Month
Uiseong County has officially begun the administrative procedures to designate the Doriwon commercial area in Bongyang-myeon as an "Autonomous Commercial Zone."
This strategy aims to connect the external growth engine of the new Daegu-Gyeongbuk (TK) airport construction to the competitiveness of the local commercial district. Attention is focused on whether the Doriwon area will be reorganized as Uiseong’s "gateway commercial district."
Uiseong County (Governor Kim Jusu) announced that at 3:00 p.m. on January 15, a public hearing was held in the conference room of the Bongyang-myeon Office regarding the designation of the Doriwon Autonomous Commercial Zone in Bongyang-myeon, Uiseong County.
This public hearing was attended by more than 30 participants, including commercial district experts, local merchants, and landlords. It served as a venue to share the details and expected effects of the autonomous commercial zone designation initiative, as well as to gather opinions on strategies for revitalizing the commercial district. Participants reviewed the current status of the Doriwon commercial area and continued discussions on establishing effective support linkages and building a mutually beneficial model.
If designated as an autonomous commercial zone, stores within the area will be able to join the Onnuri Gift Certificate program, and rent stabilization can be promoted through mutually beneficial agreements between merchants and landlords. Another advantage is that it lays the foundation for applying to commercial district support projects led by the government and North Gyeongsang Province, enabling a step-by-step connection of projects necessary to strengthen the competitiveness of the commercial district.
Since July of last year, Uiseong County has been conducting preliminary research for the designation of autonomous commercial zones, targeting Uiseong Central Shopping Street, Angye Traditional Market, and Doriwon Shopping Street.
As a result, Doriwon Shopping Street has been recognized for its significant potential to become Uiseong's representative gateway commercial district, especially if it leverages the external momentum provided by the new airport construction, based on the proven capabilities of its merchants.
The county has continuously communicated with the Doriwon Shopping Street Merchants Association and related stakeholders to discuss the direction of commercial district development. The county plans to incorporate the opinions presented at this public hearing to further refine its commercial district revitalization plan. Uiseong County intends to apply for approval from North Gyeongsang Province to designate the autonomous commercial zone by the end of this month.
Kim Jusu, Governor of Uiseong County, stated, "We will faithfully carry out the designation procedures, which are the first step in the autonomous commercial zone project, to ensure that future commercial district revitalization projects can proceed smoothly."
Uiseong County plans to strengthen its phased implementation strategies and public-private cooperation framework so that the Doriwon commercial area can function as a hub, absorbing the influx of population and consumption trends in the new airport era.
