Boseong County Operates "Small Walking Challenge" Using Mobile App

Increasing Participation Rates by Age Group

Boseong County in South Jeolla Province announced that it will operate the "Small Walking Challenge," a non-face-to-face health promotion program using a mobile app that any county resident can participate in throughout the year.

The "Small Walking Challenge" is a health promotion initiative that has been underway since 2021 to establish walking as a daily habit, improve the health of county residents, and effectively provide and promote health information through mobile devices.

The county encourages voluntary participation in walking by providing participants who achieve the challenge goals with a selection of items, including Boseong Love Gift Certificates, daily necessities, oral care products, exercise equipment, and tumblers.

In particular, starting in 2026, the achievement criteria will be further segmented according to age-specific physical characteristics. For those under 70 years old (born in 1957 or later), the goal is to walk 150,000 steps over 20 days (with a maximum of 8,000 steps recognized per day). For those 70 years and older (born in 1956 or earlier), the goal is 120,000 steps over 20 days (with a maximum of 7,000 steps recognized per day). These differentiated targets are designed to maximize practical health benefits.

Last year, 557 new participants joined, bringing the total number of participants to 5,110 as of December 30, 2025. The average daily step count among participants was recorded at 6,906 steps.

In addition, the 2025 satisfaction survey showed a challenge achievement rate of 74%, a Body Mass Index (BMI) improvement rate of 62.5%, and an annual average walking practice rate of 53.6%. Program satisfaction was also rated highly at 92.8%.

A county official stated, "The mobile walking challenge is a practical program that allows residents to manage their health in everyday life," adding, "We will continue to expand customized health promotion programs that take into account age and living environment to contribute to improving the quality of life for our residents."
