Dobong District Records the Lowest Crime Rate Among Seoul's 25 Districts
The Only District with Fewer Than 2,000 Annual Cases
In 2024, Dobong District in Seoul (headed by Mayor Oh Unseok) recorded 1,723 criminal cases, the lowest among the 25 districts of Seoul. Dobong District was the only area with annual crime cases in the 1,000s. Compared to the highest number of cases (6,048), there is a difference of 4,325 cases, or 3.5 times.
Dobong District announced on the 16th that, according to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's calculation of the '2025 Regional Safety Index,' it received high ratings in areas such as crime.
The Regional Safety Index is an indicator that assesses the safety level of local governments in six categories-crime, public safety, suicide, traffic accidents, fire, and infectious diseases-grading them from level 1 to 5.
The district achieved high scores in three out of the six evaluation categories: crime (level 1), public safety (level 2), and suicide (level 2). These results are significantly better than both the national and Seoul averages.
Dobong District attributed these achievements to its implementation of local safety initiatives in cooperation with relevant organizations such as the police and fire departments. A representative project is "Safety Patrol," which identifies and resolves risk factors in areas of concern for crime and construction sites within the district. Dobong District explained that, depending on the situation, it collaborates with relevant agencies to address problems.
In the areas of traffic accidents (level 3) and fire (level 4), the district's performance was equal to or better than the Seoul average, while in infectious diseases (level 4), it was lower than the Seoul average, highlighting areas for improvement. A district official stated, "For areas requiring improvement, we will analyze the causes and conduct on-site inspections to establish and implement countermeasures. We will prioritize allocating budget and personnel to quickly resolve risk factors in the short term, and supplement systems and infrastructure in the medium to long term."
Dobong District Mayor Oh Unseok said, "We will continue to promote field-oriented safety policies so that residents can feel safe anytime and anywhere."
