Police Search Sungshin Women's University Student's Residence Over "Lacquer Protest"

On January 15, the police launched a compulsory investigation against a Sungshin Women's University student who staged a "lacquer protest" opposing the transition to a coeducational system.

According to the police on this day, the Seongbuk Police Station in Seoul conducted a search and seizure of the residence and other locations of Student A from Sungshin Women's University, who is under suspicion of property damage.

Students at Sungshin Women's University held protests in November 2024 after the university announced that it would allow male applicants to apply to the School of International Studies for the 2025 academic year. When some students wrote protest messages with lacquer on campus facilities, the university filed a complaint against them on charges including property damage.

The police recently analyzed CCTV footage, identified the suspect, and booked them on charges of property damage. It is reported that the search and seizure was conducted to secure evidence related to the charges.
