Gwangju City is accepting applications for the annual car tax prepayment program, which offers a tax deduction for those who pay their car tax in advance.
On January 15, Gwangju City announced that applications for the 2026 annual car tax prepayment, which allows residents to pay the full year's car tax in one lump sum, will be accepted from January 16 to February 2.
The annual car tax prepayment system provides a 4.5% deduction on the yearly tax amount for those who pay the car tax, normally levied in June and December, in a single payment at the beginning of the year. This system offers a reduction in the tax amount in exchange for early payment.
Taxpayers wishing to participate can apply by phone or in person at the district office responsible for their vehicle registration. Applications are also accepted through the Wetax website, the Smart Wetax mobile app, and the automated response system (ARS).
Those who prepaid their car tax last year do not need to reapply; they can simply pay using the annual prepayment notice that will be sent out this month.
Payments can be made at financial institutions nationwide. Taxpayers can use cash deposit/withdrawal machines (CD/ATM) with a bankbook, debit card, or credit card. Payment is also possible via internet or mobile banking and account transfers to the dedicated virtual account or local tax account specified on the notice.
