Megabox will present the "European Three Major Opera Houses Series," screening live performances of Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute," Bellini's "Norma," and Donizetti's "Maria Stuarda" from Europe through March.
Audiences will have the opportunity to experience three opera performances staged at Europe's leading venues-the Vienna State Opera, Theater an der Wien, and Salzburg Festival Hall-on the big screen with grand sound at the cinema. From January to March, one opera will be screened each month, with each title showing for three weeks on Thursdays and Saturdays at nine Megabox locations nationwide.
The first in the series, "The Magic Flute" from the Vienna State Opera, will be screened from January 15 to 31. The Vienna State Opera, which opened in 1869, is renowned as a global center for opera and ballet. "The Magic Flute" is Mozart's final opera and a representative work in the German singspiel style. The Vienna State Opera's production of "The Magic Flute" unfolds a magical world across symbolic settings such as the "Haunted House," "Coal Cellar," and "Gentlemen's Club."
The second production, "Norma" from Theater an der Wien, will be screened from February 5 to 21. Theater an der Wien, which opened in 1801, is a historic venue where numerous operas and plays have premiered. This production reinterprets the inner conflict of the priestess Norma, who protects nature and peace, as a clash of modern ideologies. In particular, world-renowned soprano Asmik Grigorian takes on the role of Norma for the first time, drawing much attention.
"Maria Stuarda" from the Salzburg Festival Hall will be screened from February 26 to March 15. The Salzburg Festival Hall is the main venue of the Salzburg Festival. "Maria Stuarda" depicts the political rivalry and emotional conflict between Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, and Elizabeth I, Queen of England. The production features a massive revolving stage and a moving chorus, delivering a powerful visual impact.
The European Three Major Opera Houses Series will be screened at nine Megabox locations: Coex, Daegu Shinsegae, The Boutique Mokdong Hyundai Department Store, Bundang, Central, Kintex, Hanam Starfield, Suwon Starfield, and Daejeon Hyundai Outlet.
