SK Securities Signs MOU with BuySellStandard for Security Token Issuance

On January 15, SK Securities announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with BuySellStandard, the operator of the digital asset management platform 'PIECE', for the issuance of security tokens (STO) and the activation of the STO market.

The agreement, signed the previous day at SK Securities' headquarters, is centered on establishing a collaborative framework that can be implemented immediately following the introduction of the STO regulatory system. In particular, the significance of the agreement has been heightened as the relevant legislation passed the National Assembly’s plenary session on this day, marking the beginning of the institutionalization phase.

The two companies have agreed to promote financial support for small and venture businesses and asset securitization through STO issuance. To this end, they plan to build a cooperative system covering issuance, structural design, and distribution, and to gradually develop an STO business model linked to the institutional financial infrastructure. SK Securities has been pursuing related businesses, such as offering fractional investment products to customers in 2022, and aims to make STO and fractional investment a medium- to long-term growth engine.

BuySellStandard is the only company among the seven fractional investment firms that received business restructuring approval from the Financial Services Commission’s Securities and Futures Commission to adopt a multi-asset strategy. The company possesses both the system and technological capabilities to issue security tokens for a variety of real-world assets, including rare tangible assets, artworks, ships, and intellectual property (IP). Recently, it was recognized for its innovation by being selected as an outstanding company in the Financial Services Commission’s 'K-Fintech 30'.

Park Samgyu, Head of Management Innovation at SK Securities, stated, "By partnering with BuySellStandard, we aim to explore new digital-based financial services such as supporting financing for small and venture businesses through security tokens. We will upgrade our platform in line with institutionalization and prioritize the protection of small investors to solidify our position as a leader in digital assets."

Shin Beomjun, CEO of BuySellStandard, commented, "Security tokens open up new possibilities across the capital market, not only for small and venture business financing but also for the securitization of venture fund shares and the tokenization of derivative-linked securities. By combining SK Securities’ expertise in structured finance with BuySellStandard’s multi-asset tokenization capabilities, we will materialize an innovative model that encompasses everything from corporate finance to asset securitization."
