Gwangju City Establishes 2026 Health Care Plan: "Creating a City Where Everyone Is Healthy and Happy" Kim Choongbeom, Mayor of Gwangju City, held the "Regional Health Care Plan Deliberation Committee" on the 15th at the City Hall Vision Hall to review the implementation results of the third year of the 8th Regional Health Care Plan and to establish the implementation plan for the fourth year. The Regional Health Care Plan, in accordance with the "Regional Health Act," is a comprehensive health care plan in which local governments establish and implement a four-year mid- to long-term plan and corresponding annual implementation plans. The goal is to improve the quality of health care services and promote the health of local residents.

Gwangju City has set the 8th Regional Health Care Plan under the vision of "A Happy Gwangju Where All Citizens Are Healthy," focusing on three main strategies: establishing a system that links medical care, health, and care services through community cooperation; building a foundation for health management by life stage and living environment; and creating a healthy living environment with citizen participation. The city is implementing these through nine key projects and eighteen detailed tasks.

The deliberation committee was attended by eleven members, including Vice Mayor Kim Choongbeom as chair, as well as health care, welfare, and school health officials, local university professors, and local residents. The committee reviewed the implementation results for the third year (2025) and discussed directions for improvement in establishing the implementation plan for the fourth year (2026).

The committee members positively evaluated indicators where Gwangju outperformed the Gyeonggi Province average, such as the incidence rate of infectious diseases, the registration rate of pregnant women, awareness of blood sugar levels, current smoking rate, and the rate of beneficiaries of mental health promotion education. On the other hand, they agreed that more proactive improvement measures are needed for relatively insufficient indicators, such as the registration rate of dementia patients, obesity rate, and subjective health awareness rate.

Vice Mayor Kim Choongbeom stated, "We will faithfully reflect the various opinions presented at this deliberation committee to establish and implement annual regional health care plans tailored to the characteristics and circumstances of the region," adding, "We will do our best to make Gwangju City a place where all citizens are healthy and happy."
