Kim Kyungsoo, Chairman of the Presidential Committee for the Local Autonomy Era, visited Hoseo University and presented the university's role in connecting regional industries with young people as a key pillar for Korea's renewed leap forward.
On January 15, Hoseo University held a special lecture and discussion session at the Venture-Industry Cooperation Center on its Asan Campus, inviting Kim Kyungsoo, Chairman of the Presidential Committee for the Local Autonomy Era, under the theme "The Survival of the Region is the Survival of Korea." The event was attended by about 120 participants, including current students, alumni, family business representatives, and local government officials.
In his special lecture, Chairman Kim stated, "A true era of local autonomy should begin not with the allocation of central government finances, but with the region's own capacity for growth," adding, "That starting point is the university and talented individuals."
He particularly emphasized, "When universities become the focal point of industrial innovation and create an ecosystem where young people can stay and take on challenges in the region, Korea will thrive together."
After the lecture, Chairman Kim visited the Semiconductor Package LAB at Hoseo University, observed students operating post-processing semiconductor equipment firsthand, and offered words of encouragement.
This LAB serves as an educational hub for nurturing practical talent in the semiconductor and display sectors, which are core industries in South Chungcheong Province, and implements a field-oriented educational model.
Sung Eunhyun, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Hoseo University, commented, "This visit was an opportunity to review, from a policy perspective, the role universities should play amid the crisis of regional extinction," and added, "We will further develop a model for regional growth centered on nurturing specialized talent and venture startups."
Meanwhile, Hoseo University is a central institution in the central region specializing in semiconductors and displays, future automobiles, biohealth, and design. Through initiatives such as the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' University Startup Support Project, the university is focusing on fostering entrepreneurship and industry-academia cooperation capabilities, serving as an advance base for regional economic development and youth job creation.
