This measure was implemented to minimize public anxiety and establish a more systematic response system for chemical accidents, amid growing social awareness and concern regarding chemical safety.
The city selected the Gasan Sports and Culture Center Badminton Stadium and the Soheul National Sports Center Gymnasium as additional evacuation sites, taking into account factors such as distance from chemical-handling businesses, transportation accessibility, and facility capacity. As these sports facilities are already familiar to residents in their daily lives, they are expected to enable a prompt and effective response in the event of an actual emergency.
Additionally, the city has installed highly visible guide signs at prominent locations to help citizens easily identify evacuation sites, utilizing both attached and freestanding types to enhance visibility and accessibility.
A Pocheon City official stated, "Since chemical accidents can occur without warning, it is especially important for residents to familiarize themselves in advance with evacuation sites near their homes." The official added, "We will continue to strengthen the effectiveness of our chemical accident response system through ongoing maintenance of guide signs and regular drills."
