Military Manpower Administration Begins This Year's Conscription Physical Examinations for 250,000 Candidates

The Military Manpower Administration announced on January 15 that the conscription physical examinations for 2026 will be conducted until December 23.

According to the Military Manpower Administration, this year's examination targets include approximately 250,000 individuals: those born in 2007 who turn 19 this year, those born in 2006 who applied for "enlistment after the 20-year-old examination," and those who postponed their conscription physical examination. Among those born in 2007, individuals who wish to undergo the examination this year can apply for "selection of the date and location for the 19-year-old conscription physical examination." Those who wish to take the examination and enlist at age 20 (in 2027) can apply for "enlistment after the 20-year-old examination."

The conscription physical examination consists of basic tests (psychological test, blood and urine tests, radiological examination, height and weight measurement, blood pressure and vision tests, etc.), followed by specialized doctors for each category conducting detailed examinations to determine the physical grade. Based on this, the conscription disposition is decided.

Meanwhile, starting this year, identity verification during the conscription physical examination will be strengthened. At the registration stage, the authenticity of official identification cards (resident registration card, driver's license) will be verified through a kiosk, and, with the individual's consent, the ID card and the person's face will be electronically matched.

Hong Soyoung, Commissioner of the Military Manpower Administration, stated, "Since the conscription physical examination determines the form of military service, we will do our utmost to ensure accurate examinations," adding, "By strengthening identity verification, we will enhance the fairness and reliability of the conscription physical examination."
