A woman who boarded a plane disguised as an airline flight attendant was caught and is now under police investigation.

According to foreign media outlets such as VN Express on January 14, an Indonesian national, Khairun Nisa (23), boarded Batik Air flight ID7058 departing from Palembang to Jakarta on January 6 (local time).

Complete with airline uniform, carry-on, and staff ID

Wearing an airline uniform, with her hair in an updo, a carry-on bag bearing the airline's logo, and even an ID card, she presented a valid ticket and passed through security without issue. Even after boarding the plane, she was not questioned for some time.

However, during the flight, actual flight attendants noticed something odd about Nisa's uniform design, and their suspicions grew when she was unable to answer basic questions about flight attendant duties.

In particular, her ID card turned out to be an outdated design that had not been used for about 15 years. The flight attendants immediately reported her to the airline security team, and as soon as the plane arrived in Jakarta, Nisa was detained by police for questioning.

"Failed the flight attendant recruitment, lied to family about passing"

During the police investigation, Nisa initially claimed to be a Batik Air employee but soon admitted she had disguised herself as a flight attendant. She stated that she had previously applied to be a Batik Air flight attendant but was rejected, and lied to her family, telling them she had been accepted.

Nisa explained, "I wanted my family to see me as a flight attendant," adding, "I left home wearing the uniform and missed the chance to change, so I went straight to the airport." She continued, "I sincerely apologize to the airline and passengers."

The media pointed out, "The fact that someone could approach an aircraft in a flight attendant uniform highlights a serious security issue," and noted that "it demonstrates the potential threat to aviation security posed by impersonating insiders." However, airport authorities and Batik Air clarified, "Nisa boarded following the same procedures as any regular passenger and did not access restricted areas such as the cockpit or crew-only zones."
