Exposed by Crew’s Report... Detained by Police
A woman disguised as an airline flight attendant was caught and investigated by the police after her true identity was revealed.
According to VN Express and other foreign media outlets on January 14, an Indonesian national, Khairun Nisa (23), boarded Batik Air flight ID7058 from Palembang to Jakarta on January 6 (local time).
Complete with Airline Uniform, Carry-On, and Employee ID
Wearing an airline uniform, with her hair neatly tied up, carrying a suitcase bearing the airline's logo, and equipped with an ID badge, she presented a validly purchased ticket and passed through security screening. Even after boarding the plane, she was not questioned for some time.
However, during the flight, actual crew members noticed irregularities in Nisa's uniform design and grew suspicious when she was unable to answer basic questions about flight attendant work.
In particular, her ID badge was found to be an outdated design that had been discontinued about 15 years ago. The crew immediately reported her to the airline security team, and Nisa was detained and questioned by police as soon as the plane landed in Jakarta.
"Failed Flight Attendant Recruitment, Lied to Family About Passing"
During the police investigation, Nisa initially claimed to be a Batik Air employee, but soon admitted to disguising herself as a flight attendant. She stated that she had previously applied to become a Batik Air flight attendant but failed the recruitment process, and lied to her family, telling them she had been accepted.
Nisa explained, "I wanted to appear to my family as if I was working as a flight attendant," and added, "I left home wearing the uniform and missed the chance to change, so I went straight to the airport." She continued, "I sincerely apologize to the airline and the passengers."
The media pointed out, "The fact that someone could approach the aircraft in a flight attendant uniform highlights a serious security issue," and noted, "This demonstrates the potential threat to aviation security from impersonating insiders." However, airport authorities and Batik Air clarified, "Nisa boarded the plane following the same procedures as any regular passenger and did not access restricted areas such as the cockpit or crew-only sections."
