This agreement was made to continue and expand the existing exchange relationship, as Quang Nam Province-which had established a friendship partnership with Yongin City in 2013-was integrated into Da Nang City and reorganized as a centrally governed city following Vietnam's administrative restructuring in July of last year.

Through the agreement, the two cities agreed to expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields, including industry and economy, culture and tourism, and education.

With a population of 3.1 million, Da Nang is a leading tourist city in Vietnam and a key hub in central Vietnam, accelerating the development of advanced industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and information technology (IT), as well as urban digital transformation. Da Nang is strengthening its competitiveness in manufacturing and the ICT industry based on industrial infrastructure such as the High-Tech Park.

During the signing ceremony, Mayor Lee stated, "Da Nang is a city that many Koreans visit," and added, "If the two cities expand cooperation, we can grow together."

Mayor Lee also expressed, "I hope that, with this friendship agreement as a starting point, the two cities will become even closer and that exchanges will become more active not only in industry but also in culture, tourism, sports, and other diverse fields."

Ho Kyi Min, Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, said, "I hope that, with this agreement, the two cities will cooperate in various fields and develop a mutually beneficial relationship."

After the agreement was signed, at an official welcome luncheon hosted by Chairman Pham Duc An, the two cities held extensive discussions on sharing experience in operating industrial complexes, cooperation and exchanges for business expansion, sports exchanges such as football, linking cultural and tourism resources, as well as smart city policies and urban management practices.

Meanwhile, in July of last year, Vietnam consolidated its previous 63 provinces and cities into 34 units, including 6 centrally governed cities and 28 provinces, abolished the intermediate administrative level of districts and counties, and simplified the structure to a system of provinces and towns. As a result, Quang Nam Province was integrated into Da Nang City, which became the centrally governed city of Da Nang with a population of 3.1 million.
