National Mokpo University announced on January 14 that it welcomes the decision by National Suncheon University to hold a re-vote among students on the proposed university merger.

President Song Hacheol stated, "In order to become the leading national university representing Jeollanam-do and to establish a new national medical school in the province-an issue long desired by the region-without conflict, the merger between National Mokpo University and National Suncheon University is absolutely necessary."

He added, "I sincerely welcome the determination and commitment of the members of National Suncheon University toward the development of their university," emphasizing, "Mokpo University will continue to devote its utmost efforts to building medical infrastructure and promoting balanced regional development across both eastern and western Jeollanam-do through this merger with National Suncheon University."
