Creating a Safer Work Environment and Strengthening Fire Prevention
On January 14, the Changwon Agricultural Technology Center in Gyeongnam held a joint public-private campaign at the Naeseo Agricultural Products Wholesale Market to promote compliance with forklift safety regulations and to establish a smoke-free culture inside buildings.
This campaign was organized to prevent forklift accidents that may occur during the distribution of agricultural products and to preemptively block fire risks caused by indoor smoking.
The campaign involved five staff members, including the head of the Agricultural Products Wholesale Market Management Division, and four corporate representatives, including a corporate safety manager. They focused on guiding those engaged in agricultural product distribution on the following points: compliance with forklift safe driving rules, maintaining a smoke-free environment inside buildings, and using designated smoking areas.
In particular, forklifts are essential equipment for unloading and transporting agricultural products, but careless operation can lead to personal injury. Additionally, indoor smoking poses a significant risk of large-scale fires, given the characteristics of the wholesale market. Therefore, on-site publicity and guidance activities were strengthened to encourage voluntary compliance with safety rules.
Kang Jongsun, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "The agricultural products wholesale market is a space where many people and pieces of equipment operate simultaneously, so safety awareness is more important than anything else. We will continue to do our utmost to create a safe wholesale market environment without accidents through field-oriented campaigns and ongoing inspections."
