Later, at 3 p.m. on the same day, the Democratic Party’s Gwangju Metropolitan City Branch held a “Resolution Rally for the Prompt Promotion of Gwangju-Jeonnam Administrative Integration” in front of the branch headquarters, informing citizens and the media of the party stance confirmed by the Standing Committee. This rally was organized to clarify the branch’s intention to move beyond mere declarations or reviews of administrative integration and to advance to the implementation stage.

In the resolution adopted on this day, the Gwangju Metropolitan City Branch stated that the administrative integration of Gwangju and Jeonnam should not be limited to simple administrative boundary adjustments or formal cooperation. The branch emphasized that the swift passage of a special law on integration in the National Assembly should serve as a starting point, followed by substantial measures to reorganize laws, administrative authority, and budget structures to align with integration. Through this, the region should establish a foundation to make and execute key policies and projects independently, without excessive reliance on the central government.

The Gwangju Metropolitan City Branch also officially stated its position that, through administrative integration, Gwangju and Jeonnam should become a central pillar in the national development strategy and take a leading role in designing and implementing their own future.

Yang Bunam, head of the Gwangju City Branch, said, “The administrative integration of Gwangju and Jeonnam is not a matter of choice but an essential task for the sustainable future of the region,” adding, “Now that the Standing Committee has officially decided to promote it promptly as the party’s stance, the Gwangju City Branch will take the lead in responsibly advancing the integration discussion to the implementation stage.”
