Goheung County to Transform Tourism with Extended-Stay Travel

Full-Scale Launch of the 2026 Tourism Revitalization Plan

With the era of 10 million tourists on the horizon, Goheung County in South Jeolla Province has announced the establishment of the '2026 Tourism Revitalization Plan.' The county will shift to a substance-focused tourism policy aimed at extending tourists' stay duration and adding vitality to the local economy.

The core of this plan lies in enhancing the 'density of the tourism experience.'

Goheung County has woven together a variety of tourism resources-including aerospace assets, islands and marine attractions, healing forests, and southern regional cuisine-into a single, seamless flow. The county has designed itineraries that allow visitors to feel the sea breeze during the day and gaze at the stars of the universe at night, as well as journeys that naturally connect the mainland to the islands. This approach is intended to encourage tourists to spend more than two days in Goheung.

In particular, the county will innovate its content operations. Starting in the first half of the year, Goheung will launch Blue Marine bicycle tours and eco-healing programs, while scheduling major events earlier in the year to establish a continuous tourism flow without an off-season.

Additionally, by reflecting the travel trends of Millennials & Gen Z, the county will gradually create stylish photo zones that harmonize with Goheung’s natural scenery. This will strengthen social media marketing, making a single photo a compelling reason to visit Goheung.

The county has also meticulously designed a positive economic cycle for tourism. To prevent visits from being one-off, Goheung will expand systems that return tourism incentives and admission fees as local currency, and will encourage visitors’ actual spending to circulate within the region through accommodation discounts and rail travel packages.

Furthermore, the county plans to enhance policy precision through tourism data analysis, while fostering resident-participatory tourism organizations to ensure both the quality and safety of travel experiences.

An official from the county’s tourism policy office stated, “The year 2026 will mark the beginning of a qualitative leap that completes the depth and quality of travel. We will focus all our efforts so that the longer visitors stay in Goheung, the deeper their travel experience becomes and the greater the restorative effects they enjoy.”
