Woman in Her 30s Killed in Six-Vehicle Chain Collision on Gyeongbu Expressway; Three Dead or Injured

At approximately 5:42 a.m. on January 14, a series of collisions involving six vehicles occurred near the Yangsan Rest Area on the northbound lanes of the Gyeongbu Expressway, resulting in one fatality and two injuries.

According to the police, the accident began when an RV vehicle rear-ended a compact car that was stopped in the second lane. The impact pushed the compact car into the first lane, while the RV came to a stop on the shoulder.

Subsequently, a taxi traveling in the first lane collided with the compact car and stopped ahead, after which an SUV following behind struck the compact car again and was deflected into the third lane. During this sequence, a truck traveling in the third lane crashed into the SUV. Then, a passenger car in the first lane collided with the compact car once more, leading to a chain-reaction collision.

As a result of this accident, a woman in her 30s who was driving the compact car was killed. The taxi driver, a man in his 70s, and one passenger sustained minor injuries and are receiving hospital treatment. The other drivers reportedly did not suffer serious injuries.

Police investigations confirmed that none of the drivers involved in the accident were found to be under the influence of alcohol.

The Busan Highway Patrol Division responded to the scene upon receiving the report, implemented traffic control measures, and managed the site to prevent further accidents. Police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident based on vehicle dashcam footage and other evidence.
