Nine Festivals Finalized Through Festival Promotion Committee Review
The 'Daejeon 0 O'Clock Festival' has been selected as one of Daejeon's representative festivals for 2026.
Daejeon City has chosen nine festivals as the '2026 Daejeon Representative Festivals' to promote its leap toward becoming a world-class tourism city, following a review by the Festival Promotion Committee.
The selection process considered festivals submitted by the city hall, autonomous districts, and affiliated organizations, and was based on a comprehensive evaluation of last year's on-site assessments and this year's business plans by the committee.
The nine festivals ultimately chosen as Daejeon's representative festivals for 2026 are: the Daejeon 0 O'Clock Festival, Daejeon Science Festival, Daejeon Bread Festival (Daejeon Tourism Organization), Daejeon Dong-gu Dongrak Festival (Dong-gu District), Daejeon Hyoculture Root Festival (Jung-gu District), Daejeon Seo-gu Art Festival (Seo-gu District), Yuseong Four Seasons Festival (Yuseong-gu District), Yuseong Chrysanthemum Festival (Yuseong-gu District), and Daedeok Water Light Festival (Daedeok-gu District).
Each autonomous district selected as a representative festival will receive city funding to enhance the competitiveness of their festivals, while festivals hosted by the city or its affiliated organizations are excluded from budget support.
Festivals hosted by autonomous districts have faced limitations in sustained growth due to their financial conditions, which has hindered their ability to secure internal and external competitiveness.
To address this, the city plans to select a representative festival for each district and provide financial support, thereby enhancing the uniqueness of festival content and the stability of operations, with the goal of fostering distinctive festivals unique to Daejeon.
The city also announced its intention to avoid unnecessary competition and ranking among festivals, and to maintain an equitable support system aimed at long-term growth and self-sustainability. In addition, it will ensure that diverse events are held throughout the city to expand citizens' cultural and artistic experiences.
Park Seungwon, Director of Culture, Arts, and Tourism of Daejeon City, stated, "Selecting representative festivals is not just about supporting events, but is part of a systematic effort to develop tourism content that represents Daejeon," adding, "Just as the Daejeon 0 O'Clock Festival has elevated the city's brand value and led its leap toward becoming a world-class tourism city, we will nurture our representative festivals so they can grow beyond Daejeon and become globally recognized festivals."
