First Contract with Bermuda-based Owner NAT
Deal Amount Equals 23.4% of Last Year's Revenue
Daehan Shipbuilding has secured its first contract from 'Nordic American Tankers (NAT)', a shipping company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The company won a new order for two Suezmax crude oil carriers, with a contract value of 252 billion won.
On January 14, Daehan Shipbuilding announced that it had signed a construction contract with NAT for two Suezmax crude oil carriers, each with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 157,000. The ordered vessels are scheduled to be delivered in October and November 2028, respectively. NAT is a specialized tanker operator that manages a fleet focused exclusively on Suezmax-class vessels and has historically placed orders mainly with major global shipyards.

The Suezmax class refers to crude oil tankers with a maximum deadweight of 150,000 to 200,000 tons, which can pass through the Suez Canal. These vessels are primarily deployed for crude oil transportation from the Middle East and West Africa to Europe and the Americas.
The ships under this contract will feature the latest hull design, improving fuel efficiency and operational performance by approximately 3% compared to previous designs. They will also be constructed to meet the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III nitrogen oxide emission regulations and the third phase of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) standards.
A Daehan Shipbuilding representative stated, "The Suezmax crude oil carrier is the vessel type in which we have the greatest competitive strength," adding, "We will continue to focus on securing orders for our main vessel types this year."
