Seongnam City Develops Futsal and Basketball Courts at Pangyo Daejang Detention Basin

The Daejang Detention Basin in Pangyo, Seongnam, has been transformed into a year-round community sports and leisure space.

On January 13, Seongnam City announced that, as part of its initiative to expand sports facilities, it has developed a futsal field, two basketball courts, and a multipurpose plaza on a total idle area of 9,439 square meters within the detention basin at 666 Daejang-dong.

This project was carried out from April last year until recently, with a total budget of 690 million won, including 350 million won in national funding.

Alongside the sports facilities, the city installed shade structures and 33 solar-powered streetlights to ensure safe use even at night.

The Daejang Detention Basin (12,368 square meters) is a natural disaster prevention facility that temporarily stores rainwater during heavy downpours to prevent a rapid rise in river levels and to protect nearby roads from flooding.

Seongnam City has expanded the use of the basin, maintaining its original function while also providing residents with a space for everyday sports and leisure activities.

The opening ceremony for the Daejang Detention Basin sports facility was held on this day (the 13th) at 3 p.m. on site, attended by Seongnam Mayor Shin Sangjin, National Assemblyman Ahn Cheolsoo, and about 100 others.

Shin Sangjin, Mayor of Seongnam, stated, "The Daejang Detention Basin will become more than just a flood prevention facility; it will serve as an open space where local residents can exercise and share the vitality of daily life. We will continue to focus on expanding community sports facilities by utilizing idle spaces."
