Korea Innovation Party: "President as Ringleader of Constitutional Destruction, Worse Than Chun Doohwan... Death Penalty for Yoon Is the Course of History"

Baek Sunhee: "The Judiciary Must Deliver Its Verdict at the Earliest Possible Date"

On January 13, the Korea Innovation Party stated that the special prosecutor's demand for the death penalty for former President Yoon Sukyeol in the insurrection case was "the solemn command of the people and the natural course of history."

Baek Sunhee, floor spokesperson for the Korea Innovation Party, said, "Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok today requested the maximum penalty permitted by law, the death sentence, for Yoon Sukyeol, the ringleader of the insurrection," adding, "This is the stern command of the sovereign to uphold the rule of law, and an inevitable outcome."

Spokesperson Baek stated, "Given that the president, who should have protected the Constitution, became the very leader of its destruction, Yoon Sukyeol's crime is far graver and more vicious than that of Chun Doohwan, who staged a military coup." She continued, "Yoon Sukyeol and his legal team deceived the public by insisting, even in their final defense, that the insurrection was an act of governance. Their shamelessness, persisting in the delusion that 'I am the state' until the end without any remorse, is infuriating."

Spokesperson Baek added, "Now, the ball is in the court's hands," urging, "The court must deliver its verdict at the earliest possible date without further delay." She further called on the court, "Without hesitation, and guided only by the Constitution, the law, and judicial conscience, the ringleader of the insurrection must be permanently isolated from society and held accountable with a stern ruling that restores the rule of law in the Republic of Korea."
