Declaration of Solidarity by 7,000 Women
New Year Gathering Sets the Engine of Regional Change in Motion
Women in Uiseong County opened the new year of Byeongo with solidarity and participation.
Uiseong County (Governor Kim Jusu) announced that the Uiseong County Women's Association Council (President Kim Hyojeong) held the "2026 Uiseong County Women's New Year Gathering" on January 12 at the main auditorium of the Uiseong County Youth Center.
About 150 people attended the event, including local women leaders, heads of institutions and organizations, and council members. They exchanged New Year's greetings and strengthened cooperation and communication among women's organizations.
The Uiseong County Women's Association Council is a leading local women's organization, consisting of 13 groups and more than 7,000 members. The New Year Gathering is held annually as a symbolic event to share the year's vision and a collective commitment to action.
This year's gathering was especially significant as it marked the first official event for newly inaugurated President Kim Hyojeong in 2026, serving as an opportunity to set the direction for future activities. President Kim stated, "Based on solidarity and participation among women, we will bring about tangible changes in the local community," adding, "We will build a Uiseong County women's community that respects one another and grows together."
Governor Kim Jusu, in his congratulatory remarks, said, "The Uiseong County Women's Association Council has put the values of sharing, service, and solidarity into practice on the ground, playing a vital role in regional development. In the new year, we will continue to provide administrative support so that women's participation and capabilities become the driving force for local change."
This Women's New Year Gathering went beyond a simple New Year's greeting to reaffirm the role of women as agents of change in the region. In the face of structural challenges such as population decline and the risk of local extinction, the organizational strength and solidarity of Uiseong County's women's groups have become not just a supplement to administration, but a core partner.
If the collective capacity of more than 7,000 members expands into the areas of care, welfare, culture, and the broader community, its impact could become a real driving force for transforming the local community. In this sense, this gathering is seen not as a mere ceremonial event, but as a signal of transition.
Uiseong County plans to use this gathering as an opportunity to further strengthen the organizational power and field presence of women's groups, and to continuously expand the role of women in addressing local issues and revitalizing the community as a whole.
