According to the agreement, LG Innotek will invest a total of 100 billion won from 2026 to 2028 to gradually establish a new production line for automotive control modules (AP modules) at its Gwangju plant. The production line is scheduled for completion in December of this year, after which the total floor area of the Gwangju plant will increase to 97,000 square meters.
The automotive AP module is a key component that serves as the brain of a vehicle, integrating and controlling automotive electronic systems such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and digital cockpits. This is a new business area that LG Innotek has been actively pursuing since last year.
To ensure the implementation of the investment, Gwangju City plans to provide administrative support, including permits and approvals, as well as financial support such as tax reductions and subsidies. The city believes that this investment, in line with its future vehicle, automotive electronics, and artificial intelligence demonstration city strategy, will serve as an opportunity to enhance the competitiveness of local industries.
Mayor Kang Gijeong stated, "Although the direct employment effect of this agreement is 30 people, the ripple effect across related industries will be even greater. We will invigorate the local economy and job market by attracting outstanding companies in strategic industries."
Moon Hyuksu, President and CEO of LG Innotek, commented, "The Gwangju plant is a core hub for our mobility business. We will work together with the local community to strengthen the competitiveness of the future mobility industry."
