Active Educational and Cultural Volunteer Activities
for Nine Days and Seven Nights in Sangthong, Laos
Kyungnam University recently held the 2025 KU Overseas Volunteer Activity (Laos) kickoff ceremony at the Hanma Future Hall audiovisual room.
The volunteer group will carry out a variety of educational and cultural volunteer activities in the Sangthong region of Laos for nine days and seven nights, from January 10 to January 18.
This overseas volunteer activity was organized to strengthen Kyungnam University students' global competencies and foster a spirit of humanitarian service. A total of 22 participants, including students and faculty members, joined the program under the leadership of Student Affairs Director Jung Woochang.
The volunteer group is divided into three teams-music and physical education, art, and Korean culture-centered around Haitai Elementary School in the Sangthong region of Laos, where they will directly interact with local students.
The music and physical education team aims to enhance the physical activity and sense of community among local students through sports and cooperative games. The art team focuses on developing students' creativity and expressive abilities through art experiences and creative activities. The Korean culture team plans to introduce Korean culture and broaden mutual cultural understanding through traditional games, K-POP performances, and cultural experience programs.
In addition, the volunteer group will engage in various participatory activities with local students, such as sports days, gift box deliveries, and cultural exchange programs, to foster emotional connections and the spirit of sharing.
In his encouraging remarks, Vice President for Academic Affairs Hong Junghyo said, "I hope this KU overseas volunteer activity becomes a valuable experience for students to cultivate consideration for others and to understand and respect diverse cultures," adding, "I expect that volunteering and exchange in the field will become an important foundation for growing into global citizens."
