Peak Concurrent Users Surpass 960,000
"Focus on Quality and Sustainability Proves Successful"
Nexon announced on January 13 that "Ark Raiders," a new extraction adventure game developed by its Swedish subsidiary Embark Studios, has surpassed 12.4 million units sold worldwide in just about two months since its release.
Released on October 30 last year, "Ark Raiders" has gained widespread popularity across all platforms, including PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with peak concurrent users exceeding 960,000. Over the past 10 weeks, it has consistently ranked among the top sellers on Steam’s global "Best Selling Products" chart, laying the foundation for long-term success.
The game has also stood out at global gaming awards. "Ark Raiders" won the "Best Multiplayer Game" category at The Game Awards (TGA), the world’s largest gaming awards ceremony, last year. It was also selected for the "Most Innovative Gameplay" category at the 2025 Steam Awards, hosted by Steam.
Nexon began its initial investment in Embark Studios in 2018, later acquiring it as a subsidiary the following year and gradually increasing its stake to make it a wholly owned subsidiary. Since then, Nexon has successfully established a new intellectual property (IP) spanning Western and Asian markets by respecting the studio’s independence and creativity while combining Nexon’s expertise in global publishing and live service. The company’s focus on quality and sustainability over short-term results is credited as a key factor in this success.
Lee Jungheon, CEO of Nexon Japan, stated, "The high level of immersion and consistent support from global users for 'Ark Raiders' is extremely encouraging. The records achieved since launch are significant in that they demonstrate the potential for 'Ark Raiders' to establish itself as Nexon’s next-generation blockbuster IP."
He added, "This achievement, made possible through long-term collaboration with Embark Studios, proves that Nexon’s global horizontal IP growth strategy-expanding its user base across multiple platforms-is yielding tangible results."
Patrick Soderlund, CEO of Embark Studios, commented on the achievement, saying, "I am deeply grateful to the 'Raider' community who have been with us since the beginning. Moving forward, we will continue to communicate closely with our users, drawing on their ideas and passion to help shape the direction of 'Ark Raiders' together."
"Ark Raiders" is set in a post-post-apocalyptic world, featuring battles against the formidable enemy "Ark" and a blend of cooperation and competition among users. For two weeks after launch, it maintained the top spot in both global revenue and popularity rankings on Steam, and also ranked number one in sales on Steam in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. Even after the recent "Cold Snap" update, it remains among the top three most-played games on Steam, demonstrating sustained popularity.
