Gyeonggi Province has been named the safest local government in South Korea, earning the highest number of first-grade ratings among provincial-level regions for 11 consecutive years in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 'Regional Safety Index' assessment.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on January 13, Gyeonggi Province received a first-grade rating in five out of six evaluation criteria-traffic accidents, fires, public safety, suicide, and infectious diseases-excluding the crime category.

With this assessment, Gyeonggi Province has achieved the highest number of first-grade ratings in the 'Regional Safety Index' for 11 consecutive years from 2015 to 2025.

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon stated, "Gyeonggi Province's achievement of first-grade ratings in the most categories is the result of active participation by all stakeholders to strengthen safety management policies and raise safety awareness," adding, "We will work together with relevant agencies to improve the crime index, which received a relatively lower grade."

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety annually quantifies the safety levels of local governments using statistics from six categories-traffic accidents, fires, crime, public safety, suicide, and infectious diseases-and announces the 'Regional Safety Index' by rating them from grade 1 to 5. A first-grade rating indicates a relatively higher level of safety within the same administrative unit.
