"AI Innovation Task Force Launch and National Project Discovery Report Meeting" Held
Proactive Response to Government's "AI·AX Grand Transformation" Policy
One-Stop Support for Manufacturing Data Specialization and DC Mega Cluster Establishment
Detailed Roadmap to Be Announced at "AI Vision Proclamation Ceremony" in February
On January 13, Gumi City, North Gyeongsang Province, held the "Gumi City AI Innovation Task Force Promotion Report Meeting" under the leadership of Mayor Kim Jangho, officially launching a dedicated organization (Task Force) to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) across the entire city administration.
The launch of this Task Force demonstrates Gumi's strong commitment to swiftly respond to the government's recently emphasized "AI·AX Grand Transformation" policy direction, as outlined in the 2026 government work report, and to secure future growth engines by combining Gumi's robust manufacturing base with AI.

This year, the government mentioned "AI" more than 400 times in ministry-specific work reports, underscoring a national focus on AI transformation. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy highlighted "Manufacturing AX," the Ministry of Science and ICT set forth "AI Top 3 Leap," and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety made "Public Sector AI Transformation" a core agenda.
Starting with the launch of the Task Force, Gumi City will conduct a detailed analysis of central government AI policy trends and seek to identify new projects that leverage Gumi's unique strengths. During the report meeting, the city reviewed response strategies for each department based on the 2026 central government work report and discussed ways to secure national funding by incorporating AI technologies.
The "Gumi City AI Innovation Task Force" will be led by Mayor Kim and organized as a "mammoth-scale" body that brings together the city's full administrative capabilities. Going beyond a simple consultative group, it will be divided into four working teams to deliver tangible results: ▲AI Policy Support Team ▲AI Industry Development Team ▲AI Infrastructure Building Team ▲AI Talent Development Team. Additionally, the Gumi Electronics & Information Technology Institute (Gumi Policy Planning Institute), a regional R&D hub, will participate as a dedicated institution, providing expert policy advice and vision planning to further enhance professionalism.
Gumi City's confidence in becoming a global AI hub is rooted in its unrivaled "data" and "infrastructure." Gumi boasts a complete value chain in advanced and electronic industries such as semiconductors and defense, resulting in an abundance of high-quality "manufacturing data" essential for AI training.
In particular, the investment agreement for a hyperscale AI data center by Samsung SDS, signed at CES 2026 on January 7, is a prime example of a global company recognizing the value of Gumi's manufacturing data and stable power grid.
Building on these strengths, Gumi City plans to establish the "Asia Hub Data Center (DC) Mega Cluster" and solidify its position as a "manufacturing AI data-specialized city."
With this report meeting as a starting point, the city will continue to move forward rapidly. In January, it will complete the formation of the AI Vision Committee, and at the end of February, it will hold a large-scale "Gumi City AI Vision Proclamation Ceremony."
At this event, Gumi City will present its AI future blueprint to its 410,000 citizens and business leaders, officially declaring its ambition to rise as a "global manufacturing AI data city."
