Gwangju City Receives Ministerial Commendation for Outstanding Achievements in Four Major Rivers Watershed Management Fund Resident Support Project

Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on January 13 that it has been recognized for outstanding achievements in the '2025 Four Major Rivers Watershed Management Fund Resident Support Project' and received an institutional commendation from the Minister of the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment.

This commendation was awarded to local governments that have demonstrated exemplary performance in the efficient management of the watershed management fund and the systematic implementation of resident support projects.


Gwangju City faithfully implemented all relevant guidelines throughout every stage of the resident support project, from the establishment of annual project plans to execution and post-management, with active resident participation. The city has also consistently promoted projects aligned with the objectives of the fund.


In particular, through large-scale resident support projects tailored to local conditions, the city expanded community sports infrastructure to support health promotion and leisure activities for residents in areas lacking sports facilities due to various regulations. The eco-friendly comprehensive sports complex in Bunwon-ri, Namjong-myeon, and the community sports facility project in Toechon-myeon have contributed to improving the quality of life for residents and have been positively received by the local community.


A Gwangju City official stated, "This award is the result of systematically promoting resident support projects based on ongoing communication with residents," adding, "We will continue to pursue substantial projects to enhance the welfare and living environment of residents within the Han River watershed."
