Building Ordinance Revised
Improved Residential Welfare Expected Through Simplified Procedures and Reduced Costs
Daejeon City has revised its building ordinance to allow legal installation and use of rain shelter structures on the rooftops of aging residential buildings, provided they are reported to the authorities.
The revised Daejeon City Building Ordinance, which was amended and promulgated on December 26 of last year, eases regulations to allow the installation of rooftop rain shelter roofs through a reporting process if certain conditions are met: more than 15 years have passed since the building received its occupancy approval; the top floor is used for residential purposes; and a structural safety confirmation is provided by an architect or structural engineer.
Until now, chronic rooftop water leakage issues frequently occurred in aging residential buildings, leading to many cases of installing rain shelter roofs. However, legal installation required complicated procedures such as extension permits and incurred high costs, making it difficult for residents.
This regulatory easing by Daejeon City is expected to simplify administrative procedures and reduce costs associated with installing rain shelter roofs, thereby providing citizens with greater convenience in terms of both time and finances.
Jeon Yunsik, head of the architectural team, stated, "This ordinance revision is part of our efforts to improve comfortable and safe residential welfare for citizens," adding, "We will continue to identify and improve unreasonable building regulations to maximize convenience for our citizens."
