Yangcheon District Opens 8th Seoul-style Kids Cafe at Sinwol 5-dong Branch

Space-Themed Play Area
Expansion to 11 Locations by Year-End

Yangcheon District in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Gijae) has completely remodeled the Bangadari Community Childcare Room inside the Sinwol 5-dong Community Center into a "Seoul-style Kids Cafe," which will begin operations on January 13.

The newly opened Sinwol 5-dong branch is the eighth Seoul-style Kids Cafe in Yangcheon District, featuring a space-themed playground designed to stimulate scientific curiosity. It offers fun and creative play experiences such as "Soft Moon Land," where children can experience air flow and pressure through a ball pool machine; "Little Spaceship," where kids can enjoy a spaceship boarding play area; "Milky Way Floor," which resembles the interior of a spaceship; and activities like climbing planets.

The "Seoul-style Kids Cafe" is a public indoor playground that can be used regardless of the weather at an affordable cost, and it continues to be popular among both guardians and children. In particular, it sees increased visits during the cold winter months when outdoor activities are limited.

To meet the growing demand, the district is expanding Seoul-style Kids Cafes throughout residential areas, with each facility offering a different theme so that children can enjoy new play experiences at each location.

For safety, the play areas are equipped with safety mats and corner protectors, allowing children and guardians to use the facilities with peace of mind. The interior, including play equipment, will be hygienically maintained by a professional sanitation company.

Additionally, a "Play Care Service" is available for children aged 36 months and older, allowing them to use the facility without a guardian. This provides a safe environment where guardians can confidently leave their children for a short period if needed.

The facilities are open to children aged 0 to 6 residing in Seoul and their guardians. The usage fee is 2,000 won per child and 1,000 won per guardian for a two-hour session. Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Reservations can be made through "Our Neighborhood Childcare Portal" (https://umppa.seoul.go.kr).

Yangcheon District currently operates a total of eight Seoul-style Kids Cafes, including the Sinwol 5-dong branch, and plans to expand to eleven locations by adding Mok 3-dong, Sinwol 7-dong, and Gangwol Children's Park branches in the first half of this year.

Lee Gijae, Mayor of Yangcheon District, stated, "I hope that public kids cafes will become enjoyable play spaces that foster creativity for children, and safe places where guardians can confidently leave their children. We will continue to expand care spaces within residential areas to make Yangcheon a better place to raise children."
