This inspection was organized to check the road conditions and identify any inconveniences in advance by involving citizens, who will be the actual users, prior to the opening of Local Route 86. The city plans to use the results of this inspection to promote the development of transportation infrastructure that can be directly felt by citizens.
Over 100 people attended the on-site inspection, including Mayor Joo Kwangdeok, city officials, the city council chairperson, members of the National Assembly, members of the provincial and city councils, and citizens of Hwado-eup. After listening to an overview of the project, participants traveled along part of Local Route 86, inspecting the road conditions and surrounding environment, and took time to listen to and communicate with citizens.
The section from Changhyeon to Geumnam, which was the focus of the inspection, stretches 4.3 kilometers from 49-13, Changhyeon-ri, Hwado-eup to 34-178, Geumnam-ri, Hwado-eup. It has been upgraded to a two-lane road with a width of 10.5 meters. This section serves as a major arterial road connecting Hwado-eup and Wabu-eup, with a total project cost of 87.4 billion won.
The construction of Local Route 86 began with the start of design services in 2012, was included in the 4th National Road and Local Route Five-Year Plan, and went through procedures such as compensation plan announcements and commencement of construction, before being completed in December 2025. The city expects that the opening of this road will significantly reduce travel time between Hwado and Wabu and greatly alleviate chronic congestion in the area.
With the road set to open in mid-January, the city is emphasizing its function as essential infrastructure closely related to citizens' daily lives. In particular, the city anticipates a significant improvement in transportation convenience for residents who frequently travel within the area, as well as positive effects on balanced regional development and improved logistics flows.
