Eligibility Relaxed to 140% of Standard Median Income
Reimbursement of Up to 360,000 Won Annually for Medication and Medical Expenses
Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on January 12 that it will expand the eligibility for support with treatment and management costs for dementia patients starting this year.
This program provides financial support for medication and medical expenses to citizens who have been diagnosed with dementia and are currently taking cognitive maintenance medication. Eligible individuals can receive reimbursement of up to 30,000 won per month, with an annual cap of 360,000 won.
Previously, eligibility was determined based on the health insurance premiums of children living with or supporting the patient. However, starting this year, under the guidelines of the 'Gyeonggi-do Dementia Care Package' program, the combined recognized income of elderly couples has been relaxed from 120% or less of the standard median income to 140% or less.
As a result, some citizens who were previously ineligible due to exceeding the income threshold are now expected to benefit. According to a city income survey, approximately 40 additional citizens are expected to become eligible for support with dementia treatment and management costs due to this relaxed criterion.
Citizens wishing to apply can visit their nearest Dementia Relief Center at any time throughout the year with their ID and a prescription to receive counseling and complete the application form. However, those who receive medical expense support through other programs, such as veterans’ medical support, are excluded.
For more information, please contact either the Soha Center or the Gwangmyeong Center of the Gwangmyeong Dementia Relief Center.
