Amid a series of hacking incidents affecting major domestic companies such as KT, the three major telecommunications companies, and Lotte Card, Kyowon Group, which has millions of members across multiple subsidiaries, has also fallen victim to a cyberattack.
According to industry sources on January 11, Kyowon Group detected signs of an external cyberattack in the morning of the previous day, subsequently shut down its systems, and is currently working on recovery.
As of 9 p.m. on this day, a service disruption notice stating, "Web service is unavailable due to unexpected disruptions," was posted on the websites of Kyowon Group and its subsidiaries, and access to the websites remains unavailable.
A Kyowon Group representative stated, "We have confirmed indications of a breach," but added, "We are still investigating whether any personal information has been leaked."
The representative further announced, "We plan to release an official statement tomorrow morning."
Kyowon Group operates a variety of subsidiaries, including Kyowon Life (a funeral service company), Red Pen and Kyowon Kumon (learning material companies), as well as Kyowon Invest (rental business) and Kyowon Travel.
