Fostering Digital Convergence and Innovation Talent,
Contributions to the Advancement of the ICT Industry

Jung Seokchan, Director of the Dong-Eui University Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center, received a commendation from the Minister of Science and ICT for his contributions to fostering digital convergence and innovation talent and advancing the ICT industry.

Director Jung was selected as the recipient in recognition of his efforts to create an education and research environment tailored to regional industry needs, nurturing practical talent to lead AI innovation in the region, and contributing to the development of the national information and communication technology industry and the revitalization of the southeastern regional economy through AI convergence technology development and industry-academia cooperation.

He also played a bridging role between the region and the nation by participating in the establishment of AI policies for Busan City and discussions on national-level AI strategies.

In the second phase of its project (2022-2025), the Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center produced 76 SCI papers, 101 non-SCI papers, 108 patent applications, and 38 registered patents. Through a total of 36 technology transfers, the center achieved 645 million won in technology transfer revenue, 2.45 billion won in commercialization sales, and 2.1 billion won in industry research funding, further contributing to the dissemination of research results in the industrial field.

Director Jung has received several honors, including the IT Innovation Grand Prize Minister of Knowledge Economy Award (2008), the 4th Busan Love Outstanding Talent Award (2010), the Order of Service Merit, Hongjo Medal for Contributions to the Development of the Software Industry (2019), the Busan Metropolitan City Mayor's Commendation for Contributions to Information and Communication Development (2018), the Busan Metropolitan City Mayor's Commendation for Contributions to Digital Talent Development (2022), and the Busan Metropolitan City Mayor's Commendation for Outstanding R&D Achievement (2024). The Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center also received the Busan Metropolitan City Mayor's Commendation for its contributions to digital talent development in both 2022 and 2025.

Director Jung emphasized, "In line with Busan City's AI strategic direction, we plan to expand joint industry-academia research focusing on the three core areas of AX Marine, AI Manufacturing and Robotics, and AgeTech," adding, "We will contribute to strengthening the future competitiveness of the region and the nation by fostering AI and digital convergence talent."

The Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center is being operated with support from the 'Regional Intelligence Innovation Talent Development Project' of the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP).
