"I Am Also a Victim"
Submits Power of Attorney for Lawsuit
Trot singer Sookhaeng has temporarily suspended her broadcasting activities after being embroiled in allegations of being involved as the "other woman" in an affair. She has claimed that she is also a victim and has taken legal action in response.
According to the entertainment industry on January 11, Sookhaeng recently submitted a power of attorney to the court ahead of the verdict in the lawsuit filed against her for compensation as the alleged other woman.
As a result, the verdict, which was scheduled for the 15th, has reportedly been canceled. Initially, Sookhaeng's side did not submit a response after the complaint was filed in September last year, and the court had planned to proceed with the verdict without a hearing.
This lawsuit was filed by Mrs. B, the wife of Mr. A, a married man who has been accused of having an affair with Sookhaeng. The plaintiff is claiming 100 million won in damages. Through the complaint, Mrs. B argued that her marriage had been seriously damaged due to an inappropriate relationship between her husband, Mr. A, and Sookhaeng.
The allegations surrounding Sookhaeng first came to light through media reports on December 29. According to JTBC's "Incident Chief," Mrs. B, a housewife in her 40s, reported that a female singer who gained fame through a trot competition program was having an affair with her husband. The broadcast also aired CCTV footage showing the two hugging and kissing.
Since then, Sookhaeng has consistently maintained that she is "also a deceived victim."
Sookhaeng stated, "Mr. A told me that his marriage was already irreparably broken and that he was separated with the intention of divorce." She added, "I started the relationship believing that. As soon as I realized that the divorce had not actually been finalized, I immediately ended the relationship."
Meanwhile, on January 9, attorney Kim Gangho discussed the case on YTN Radio's "Attorney Lee Wonhwa's Case X File," stating, "Even if a couple is not yet legally divorced, if their marital life has practically collapsed to the point of being irreparable, a third party engaging in a sexual relationship with one spouse cannot be regarded as interfering with or disrupting the marital relationship." He continued, "Therefore, the Supreme Court has ruled that such actions do not constitute an illegal act, as it cannot be said that the spouse's rights regarding the marital relationship have been infringed."
