Supporting a Warm Winter for Vulnerable Households

Sokcho City in Gangwon Province has provided living stability support funds (winter countermeasure funds) to low-income residents in accordance with the "Ordinance on Supporting the Living Stability of Low-Income Residents of Sokcho City" to help stabilize the lives of vulnerable low-income groups facing difficulties due to increased energy use during the winter season.

The recipients of this support were basic livelihood security beneficiaries, legally recognized low-income households, and single-parent families receiving child-rearing benefits as of December 19 of the previous year. Approximately 4,980 households each received 100,000 won, totaling about 500 million won in distributed funds.

The winter countermeasure funds were deposited directly into the accounts of eligible households receiving social security benefits on January 9, without any separate application process. For those with account errors or who were added as additional recipients, payments are scheduled to be completed by January 28.

Recipients who cannot use their accounts, such as those with seizure-protected accounts, can visit their local community center by January 16 to apply for cash payment or to designate a proxy recipient.

An official from Sokcho City stated, "We hope that this living stability support fund for low-income residents will provide at least some relief to vulnerable groups struggling with the winter cold. We will continue to do our utmost to carefully monitor the needs of low-income residents and ensure timely and appropriate support for their living stability."
