This agreement goes beyond simple exchange, aiming to establish a practical cooperation model that simultaneously drives university internationalization and regional development. The two universities agreed to gradually establish a mid- to long-term cooperation system focused on key tasks, including: seeking ways to expand international exchange and promote regional cooperation; advancing the establishment of a King Sejong Institute; and jointly working to secure a foundation for attracting outstanding international students.
The signing ceremony was attended by President Jeong Taeju, Vice President for Policy Lee Hyukjae, Director of the Glocal University Promotion Group Lim Jaehwan, Director of the Glocal University Promotion Group’s Industry-Academia Innovation Headquarters Jeon Yongho, other members of the Glocal University Promotion Group, and representatives from Namangan State Institute of Technology, totaling about 10 participants, who shared directions and strategies for cooperation.
Particularly noteworthy is the plan to establish a King Sejong Institute as a hub for the spread of Korean language and culture, which is expected to create a virtuous cycle by attracting talented international students and linking them to local industries.
President Jeong Taeju stated, "This MOA is a starting point for institutionally solidifying the foundation of international educational cooperation," adding, "Through the establishment of the King Sejong Institute and the recruitment of outstanding international students, we will enhance National Kyungguk University's global competitiveness while realizing a glocal cooperation model where the university and the region grow together."
National Kyungguk University plans to continue expanding strategic partnerships with major overseas universities to strengthen its internationalization capabilities and to establish a sustainable global cooperation system linked to the glocal university project.
