319 Korean Beef Cattle Traded
Smart Auction System Enhances Convenience for Farmers
Yecheon County has launched on-site inspections to stabilize livestock farmers' management and restore market functions. On January 9, Yecheon County visited the Yecheon Livestock Auction Market to directly examine recent trends in Korean beef prices and the operation of the auction, while also taking time to communicate with farmers.
Kim Hakdong, Mayor of Yecheon County, visited Yecheon Livestock Auction Market. The auction is boosting vitality in livestock farming.
On this day, a total of 319 cattle were traded at the livestock market, including 79 beef cattle, 38 breeding cows, and 202 calves, resulting in a relatively active auction. As Korean beef prices have been showing a gradual recovery trend, the county closely inspected the price formation process, trading atmosphere, and overall conditions for farmers' use, listening to voices from the field.
The Yecheon Livestock Auction Market has adopted a smart auction system and an unmanned grading system to enhance both operational efficiency and transparency. With the entire process- from shipment registration to auction proceedings and bid results- being digitized, the reliability of transactions has increased. For farmers, the convenience has also greatly improved, with simplified procedures and shorter waiting times.
Kim Hakdong, the mayor who visited the site, said, "I am relieved that the recent rise in Korean beef prices has somewhat eased the burden on livestock farmers," and added, "I would like to express my gratitude to the farmers and livestock market operators who have continued to support the field despite difficult circumstances."
Considering the ongoing burden of feed costs due to rising exchange rates and fluctuations in international raw material prices, Yecheon County plans to actively pursue structural measures to reduce feed costs, such as expanding forage production facilities and strengthening self-sufficiency. In addition, the administration is focusing its efforts on upgrading the Yecheon Korean beef brand to premium status, enhancing quality competitiveness, and strengthening distribution and marketing capabilities in preparation for greater market openness.
The county plans to continue advancing the functions of the livestock auction market and implementing field-oriented livestock policies to simultaneously ensure stable income for farmers and establish a sustainable foundation for the growth of the local livestock industry.
