Nationwide Cold Snap Alert... Cold Wave Advisory Issued for All of Seoul

From 9 p.m. Tonight
Advisories Extended to Gangwon, Chungcheong, Honam, and Yeongnam

The Korea Meteorological Administration announced that a cold wave advisory would be issued for all of Seoul at 9:00 p.m. on January 10. At the same time, cold wave advisories were also issued for 27 locations in Gyeonggi Province, including Suwon, as well as for many other regions nationwide, such as Gangwon, Chungcheong, Honam, and Yeongnam.

The areas in Gyeonggi Province under the cold wave advisory include 27 locations: Suwon, Goyang, Yongin, Seongnam, Bucheon, Namyangju, Anyang, Siheung, Paju, Uijeongbu, Gimpo, Gwangju, Gwangmyeong, Gunpo, Hanam, Yangju, Icheon, Guri, Anseong, Uiwang, Pocheon, Yangpyeong, Yeoju, Dongducheon, Gapyeong, Gwacheon, and Yeoncheon.


In addition, cold wave advisories were issued for 10 locations in Gangwon Province including Cheorwon, 15 locations in South Chungcheong Province including Cheonan, 14 locations in North Jeolla Province including Jeonju, 11 locations in South Jeolla Province including Mokpo, and 3 locations in South Gyeongsang Province including Changwon, among others across the country.


Furthermore, cold wave warnings will be issued at the same time for some areas of Gangwon Province, including Cheorwon and Inje, as well as for two locations in North Gyeongsang Province, including Bonghwa.


A cold wave advisory is issued when the morning low temperature drops below minus 12 degrees Celsius for two or more consecutive days, or when a rapid temperature drop is expected to cause significant damage.


The Korea Meteorological Administration advised the public to take special care of their health and to prevent facilities from freezing, as severe cold is likely to continue for the time being.
