Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on January 9 that a delegation from Goyang, currently visiting Las Vegas, USA, met with Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley on the 8th (local time) to discuss ways to expand exchanges and cooperation between the two cities.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the operation of large-scale international events and the direction of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) industry policies, and agreed to pursue ongoing exchanges to ensure that these discussions lead to practical cooperation in the future.

Las Vegas, the largest city in Nevada, is a global entertainment hub and is rapidly growing as a business city where major international conferences and global conventions, including the world's largest IT and electronics trade show CES, are held throughout the year.

Goyang also hosts a series of large-scale global performances and is home to KINTEX, the largest exhibition and convention center in Korea, which led to a consensus that the two cities share significant common ground in the fields of culture, performance, and exhibition industries.

During the meeting, Goyang presented its ongoing projects to develop cultural, performance, and exhibition convention infrastructure, and discussed the potential for cooperation based on these initiatives. Both sides agreed to further specify cooperation plans through follow-up discussions at the working level.

Mayor Shelley Berkley stated, "I was not very familiar with Goyang until now, but this meeting has made me realize that there are many exciting opportunities for cooperation between our two cities in exhibition conventions, culture, and entertainment." She also proposed on the spot to establish a sister city relationship for practical and future-oriented cooperation.

Meanwhile, prior to this meeting, the Goyang delegation signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with digital AI infrastructure investment and development companies based in the United States and Australia to build AI infrastructure, a key factor in attracting high-tech companies.

An official from Goyang Special City stated, "With this agreement, we plan to turn foreign companies' interest in investment into concrete business attraction and focus our administrative capabilities on attracting high-tech companies to Ilsan Techno Valley, which is scheduled for full-scale lot sales this year."
