Mokpo, Shinan, Muan, Haenam, Jindo, Yeongam, Yeonggwang, and Hampyeong Counties
Alert in Effect from January 10 Until Weather Advisories Are Lifted
The Mokpo Coast Guard has issued a "Caution" level alert under the Coastal Accident Risk Forecast System for eight cities and counties, starting from January 10 and continuing until weather advisories are lifted, in order to prevent marine accidents caused by adverse weather conditions such as strong winds.
The affected areas include Mokpo City, as well as the counties of Shinan, Muan, Haenam, Jindo, Yeongam, Yeonggwang, and Hampyeong.
The Coastal Accident Risk Forecast System is a policy designed to inform the public of potential dangers and prevent accidents at hazardous locations and zones along the coast, such as piers, during specific periods when adverse weather or natural disasters are likely to cause safety incidents. The system consists of three levels: Attention, Caution, and Warning.
In particular, the "Caution" level is issued when there is a heightened risk of safety accidents or concerns about the spread of damage.
During the caution period, the Coast Guard plans to strengthen both maritime and land patrols, focusing on high-risk coastal areas such as coastal lowlands, harbors, and rocky shores. In addition, local governments, police substations, electronic display boards, and public announcements will be used to promote safety awareness and guidance in order to prevent coastal accidents.
A Mokpo Coast Guard official stated, "Please check weather information frequently and refrain from marine activities if adverse weather is expected."
